Bureti branch Knut Executive Secretary Daniel Chumo has criticized the Ministry of education and Teachers service Commission for sending home three Principals whose schools were affected by unrest that led to torching of schools.
TSC sent home the principals of Tengecha Boys High School in Kericho County, Itierio Boys and Nyamache Boys High School in Kisii County following the recent burning of dormitories and successive closure of the institutions.
The decision was reached after the submission of two investigative reports to the ministry and TSC, which raised questions on the running of the schools that have been hit by fires in the recent past.

Mr. Chumo said, the initiative is wrong and cannot offer any solution to the problems but instead has painted teachers bad in the sight of pupils.

“The move is good but TSC and the Ministry of education could have done serious investigations instead of rushing to conlusions which does not help in any way” he said.

Speaking in his office in Litein town, Chumo who is also Kericho County Knut Secretary said external transfers of school heads were dangerous because the students can still attack and injure them.
He however urged Education CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i to involve all stakeholders in the process of finding out lasting solutions.

“After he sacked the teachers, burning of schools is still on, so how many teachers will be sent home” he questioned.
He said there was a psychological problem among the pupils that sacking of teachers cannot solve.
TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia witnessed the destruction when she accompanied Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to visit the schools last week.

The Ministry has also sent on compulsory leave three sub-county officials from Kericho and Kisii in whose jurisdiction the incidents took place.

The suspended include Mr George Okeyo (Nyamache), Nehemiah Onteri (Kisii South) and Samuel Nyantika (Kericho).
