A LAB TECHNOLOGIST RESIGNS TO BE SECURITY GUARD

Some people are choosing jobs but Juliet Soi is a professional With Diploma in Lab Technology but now working as a Security guard at Kaplong Girls Secondary school.
Juliet hast served as Lab assistant and Librarian in Narok Secondary school but her meager pay parallel to her demands so her out to look for greener pastures.
 She pursued her diploma in Laboratory Technology between 1999 and 2002 in Eldoret Polytechnic before she started her professional work in Naork
Upon Graduation, the mother of two secured her first job served as Lab assistant in St. Mary’s Girls in Narok for three years between 2002 and 2004.
She them moved to  to Ololung’a Boys and later to Segenani High school in 2004 to 2013 then to Segenani for one year.
At her last work station she was exposed to Library due to twists and turns that were made in school.
Juliet recalls her bad experience when she was victimized after her transfer to lab that some books were missing under her custody.
“ I have learnt to do whatever I find with diligence and my records speak for themselves in my previous work stations but I witnessed tribalism in my last workstation when after I was recommended for promotion, the jealous cooked a propaganda and sent me to lab where they wrote that some books were missing under my custody” she says.
She also alleges that Library and Laboratory were tedious with little pay.


“ The reason as to why I also chose to resign from laboratory is its tedious work saying during National Examination season she used to work from 7:00am to 10:00pm but teachers but I was still being paid pea nuts” she said.
The unrest saw her resign alleging that there were personal interests mixed up with tribalism and so she chose to resign and come back home where she immediately joined security companies where she got engaged as a guard.
The resident of Siriat Vilage in Bomet says the meager earning outside her home could not sustain.
The mother of a boy pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation in University of Nairobi says she could not choose jobs because she needed money to bring up her kids.
“My elder son is pursuing Bachelors Degree of Aviation while younger boy at Top class in School of Angels Kaplong” she narrates.
Before she was employed by the current school as a guard she was engaged with Patriotic Security and Jojum Commercial agencies as a guard where she got experience.
She says her current job helps her pay fee for her two children and to sustain her because the work station is a walking distance to her home.
She however hopes to get Librarian job which will enable her double the job with her interest of reading and arranging books.
A staff at Kaplong girls described her to her hard working mother who does her work with diligence.
“ Soi is very determined and she has inspired us to work with due diligence” she said.
